Google Art Project
The Google Art Project is a perfect example of technology bringing art to life. I can’t wait to see where this project goes. It started with 17 museums from around the world, but the possibilities are endless. If you’ve always wanted to see The Birth of Venus at the Uffizi or Starry Night at the Van Gogh Museum this is your chance!
So what is the Google Art Project?
-
“A unique collaboration with some of the world’s most acclaimed art museums to enable people to discover and view more than a thousand artworks online in extraordinary detail.”
- Explore museums with Street View technology: virtually move around the museum’s galleries, selecting works of art that interest you, navigate though interactive floor plans and learn more about the museum and you explore.
- Artwork View: discover featured artworks at high resolution and use the custom viewer to zoom into paintings. Expanding the info panel allows you to read more about an artwork, find more works by that artist and watch related YouTube videos.
- Create your own collection: the ‘Create an Artwork Collection’ feature allows you to save specific views of any of the 1000+ artworks and build your own personalized collection. Comments can be added to each painting and the whole collection can then be shared with friends and family.

Random
I’m starting to realize how random my posts are. Probably because I feel drawn to so many different topics. I Co-Own VerdeLifestyles.com which is my outlet for green living and sustainable home decor. Working in more of a marketing and project management capacity for the website now. Then during the day I work in the marketing department at a museum, primarily in online marketing and social media. So my interests range from green living, to online marketing, and art. But then once you look closer, you realize how much those topics can over lap. The possibilities are endless…online marketing for museums, art made of recycled materials, trends in green marketing etc.
I originally thought this blog would be more for online marketing and Verde Lifestyles’ blog would be for green living. But I think I’ll change gears and make my blog more random. And why not, its my blog;)
If there are any combinations of art, marketing, and green topics that interest you, let me know!

Google Business Channel
I wrote a post on Google Analytics, so I thought it was only fair to include Adwords. More specifically, the Google Business Channel. Adwords has so many help resources available, but video has always been my favorite. Whether you’re new to Adwords or not, the Google Business Channel is a great resource for videos and webinars on online advertising, Google’s business solutions and areas of thought leadership. Below is one of the most recent videos on mobile shoppers. Check it out…

Google Analytics: Conversion University
If you use Google Analytics for your site, Conversion University is a great way to learn the ins and outs of the program. I’ve been using Google Analytics for over a year now and was able to navigate the site, but there are so many great features I didn’t know about until I spent more time in the help section.
There are different certifications you can qualify for through the program, but I’ve been using the study material in Conversion University more as an overview. As a marketer when they start talking about the coding in detail my eyes always glaze over, but there is still great material you can use!
The two presentations I found really interesting was the Internal Site Search Tracking and Event Tracking and Virtual Pageviews. Internal Site Search Tracking allows a more in-depth look at how people are searching your site. Event Tracking and Virtual Pageviews allows you to track external links, visitor interaction with movies, file downloads and more.

Top 5 Art Websites
In the past I’ve written about tools and resources for online marketing. But now that I’m working for an art museum, I thought I’d write a post on the sites I go to for the latest art news. There are a million sites, but here are my top 5!
Feel free to include your favorite in the comments!

Parody of Mark Zuckerberg’s Version of “The Social Network”
I saw this hilarious video on Mashable…
“If you’ve been interested in reading Mark Zuckerberg’s opinion on The Social Network, you might have to wait a while — the Facebook() founder and CEO has stated he has no plans to see the movie. However, that hasn’t stopped the gang at Babelgum and Landline.TV from creating their own The Social Network parody, this time from Mark Zuckerberg’s point of view.”
Check out Mashable’s in-depth film review on the real film.
If you’ve seen the movie already, what did you think? I haven’t had a chance to go, but it looks interesting.

Social Media Tools & Resources
I was creating a list of tools and resources for Marie, one of our interns at Verde Lifestyles, and I thought I’d share it with everyone. This is just a short overview of the tools I use, check them out and let me know what you think!
Google Analytics:
Outside of tracking key metrics such as Visits, Pageviews, Pages/Visit, Bounce Rate, Avg Time on Site, and % of New Visits its also important to track which social media sites are referring traffic. You can find top referring sites in Traffic Sources. But also track the average time on site and bounce rate for referring sites. For example, Stumbleupon refers thousands of people to VerdeLifestyles.com, but they are only on the site for an average of 10 seconds.
Facebook Insights:
This will tell you almost everything you need to know about your fan page. It includes monthly active users, daily new likes, daily post views and post feedback. You can access it from your Pages admin area.
Twitter:
There are several tools I use for Twitter. TwitterCounter is one site that’s powered by Twitter but I’m waiting for their premium service to become available to use it. For now I use 3rd party sites such as Klout, Twitter Analyzer, and Tweet Stats. I use them all because they all give different stats.
Events:
Another great way to stay up-to-date on social media is to attend conferences and local events. The next conference that will be in Michigan is the 140 Conference. But you can attend events through Detroit Tweetups, Social Media Club Ann Arbor and Detroit more often. Social Media Club is free, so that’s always an incentive.
Since the launch of the #140conf events, conferences have taken place in: New York City, Los Angeles, London and Tel Aviv. At these events we have explored the effects of twitter on a wide range of topics including: Celebrity, “The Media”, Advertising, Politics, Fashion, Real Estate, Music, Education, Public Safety and Public Diplomacy.
Last but not least is my favorite site for social media news – Mashable!

Green Business: Is Walmart Going Green?
I’ve been seeing Walmart’s green initiatives in the news more often. There will always be negative press for the country’s largest retailer, so of course any positive stories about their green initiatives are met with skepticism. But it seems that Walmart’s recent efforts are hard to ignore.
Is Walmart Going Green?
Walmart has recently partnered with Seventh Generation, which used to refuse to sell its products through Walmart, to make their environmentally friendly cleaning products available to a wider audience.

Why Walmart Is Doing Business with Seventh Generation
Then in February Walmart committed to “reduce the carbon footprint from the lifecycle of its products, including its supply chain, by 20 million metric tons of carbon dioxide between now and 2015. This is equivalent to the annual greenhouse gas emissions of 3.8 million passenger vehicles.”

They are also one of the nations top buyers of organic cotton. Walmart is number 3, right behind Nike.

Getting Things Done
I’ve been updating DanielleBrycz.com over the past week and I’ve forgotten how time consuming it can be. Its a small site, but I want to make sure everything is just right! I’m still working on other projects at the same time and had to remind myself of David Allen’s principals in Getting Things Done. I’m obsessed with being efficient and effective with my time and this past week has not been the most productive. So I thought I’d write about my favorite productivity tool, the GTD model.
It starts off with having the proper collection tools. I always use my computer or pen and paper when I’m not at home to write down random to-dos that come to mind. Then you have to decide what the to-do is and how you should organize it. The first question you should ask yourself is is it actionable? If no send it to the trash, a someday maybe file, or for reference. If it is actionable, ask yourself what project or outcome are you committing to and what is the next action required. Then you can chose to do it, delegate it, or defer it.
After that I add it to my list of projects. I typically organize my list in a Google Doc by categories such as @Computer, @Home, and Errands etc. I’ll use this system for personal to-dos and then Basecamp a project management SaaS for Verde Lifestyles.
But what’s really helped lately is each night deciding the highest priority to-dos and finishing them before lunch the next day. It only works if you have 1-2 high priority items though. Otherwise if you don’t finish them it feels less satisfying at the end of the day and that’s what really matters!
